This post shares highlights of the second leg of our trip south from Astoria Oregon to Pahrump Nevada. We took a few minutes enjoying the morning sounds and sights at the Forestry Camp we stayed at and headed toward i5 Southbound to California border. We would take the Mt. Lassen Volcanic Scenic Highway east toward Susanville CA.
We really didn’t know where we’d spend the night but remembered seeing several campground signs on a prior trip earlier in the year. About three or so hours into the drive we came across a sign with “Falls” in the name, and if you’ve followed our travels at all you know we can’t pass up visiting waterfalls!
We pulled into Burney Falls State Park and set up camp for the night, took a shower (back to that in a bit), and headed out to explore…

And now a comment on the showers…
Elsewhere i’ve commented that Oregon was one of the more expensive states to pick as your residency. While they don’t have sales tax, everything else is!! (and if they could tax the air you breath they would!) That said, i can’t recall ever paying for a shower at any Oregon State Park. So when we went inside the showers at this California State Park we were taken back at the .75 per 2 minute shower. And then it was a non-adjustable jet-stream! And the room was an ergonomic failure. So before we ever pay for another campground in Cali, we will see if we can take a look at the grounds and facilities first. BUT, when i asked at the check in booth if we could check out the campground they said we would have to pay a non-refundable/appliable day use fee of $5. Grrrrr. I’m recalling some of the reasons i left the sate nearly 40 years ago.
The next leg will take us east to Susanville and turn south toward Reno where we will spend a few days/nights with Cari’s folks.
